Day 1 of Planning & Fundraising Training: What comes into your mind when thinking about strategic planning?

The programme for the day, and also for the whole training, is to follow the idea of starting from very general concepts and ideas about planning and fundraising and to enter step by step towards a more precise definition of the concepts allowing the participants to implement within their organisation the materials learned during the training.

Indeed, the first activity of DAY 1 was to have a brainstorm about the concept of strategic planning. The idea of brainstorming is to allow participants to have a relaxed, informal approach of a concept, encouraging them to share all thoughts and gather a list of spontaneous ideas that come into their mind when thinking about it.

Here is an overview of what came into the participant’s mind when thinking about strategic planning for an IVS organisation:
Strategic planning involves a long term vision, the knowledge of the past and current situation, the knowledge of the culture of the organisation in order to build a realistic plan with do-able results for the future. Strategic planning involves being flexible by adapting the objectives according to the needs and funds of the organisation.

As the training will go deeper into the concept, the participants will be able to improove their understanding of the keys to a well worked-out strategic plan.
